Title |
Getting Control of Your Data |
Course Description |
Advances in technology allow us to collect data, reformat data for analysis, integrate multiple datasets, and distribute new data and results faster than ever before. We’ll start with an overview of data management including how to setup field data collection to improve accuracy and reduce management time. At some point almost every researcher will need to modify their data in a way that could take hours or days with standard Excel features. We’ll learn how to break through these barriers by getting under the hood of Excel and taking control of our data with Visual Basic for Applications (VBA). The capabilities and limitations of VBA will be covered in detail. Integrating existing datasets can provide new opportunities for research. We’ll learn how to download datasets from the Internet and integrate them with existing data. Then we’ll learn when and how to use Microsoft-Access to make it easy to store more complex datasets and how to publish data on the Internet using Visual Basic Script (VB Script). |
