The Graduate Degree Program in Ecology is recognized by Colorado State University as a Program of Research and Scholarly Excellence (PRSE). Programs are awarded this designation because they have achieved great distinction and set a standard for excellence that may serve as a model for programs throughout the institution.

Our students and faculty are engaged in research across all levels of ecology, from the physiology of individuals to the dynamics of species populations to the interacting species in communities to energy and material flux in ecosystems to landscape determinants of ecological organization. Strong threads cut across these traditional ecological levels, evidenced by the growth in evolutionary (molecular and genetic) and behavioral approaches to ecology and integrating ecological principles in human-dominated ecosystems.
