Title

Historical Conditions in Valley Bottoms of the Colorado Front Range

Course Description

We will use journal articles and other primary sources to discuss (1) methods of estimating historical mean and range of variability for various ecosystem components, and (2) existing knowledge of historical conditions in valley bottoms within the Colorado Front Range. Topics covered in the seminar will include physical processes and landforms, and ecological processes and communities. At the most fundamental level, seminar participants will be seeking to answer the question of what valley bottoms in the Front Range looked like prior to human impacts such as beaver trapping, placer mining, and flow regulation.
